The short version
There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking in BookSkim. Your books and everything about how you read them stay on your phone. We do not sell or share your data, because we do not collect it.
What is stored, and where
Everything BookSkim creates is stored on your device only:
- The EPUB files you import, and your library
- Reading progress, bookmarks, highlights and reading position
- Reading streaks, time read, and per-book settings
None of it is uploaded to us or to any server. Uninstall the app and it goes with it.
When the app uses the internet
Three times, and only when you ask:
- Dictionary lookup. Tapping a word sends that word to a dictionary service to fetch a definition. The word is sent on its own. Not the sentence, not the page, not the book.
- Web search. Tapping search opens your browser with the term you selected.
- Bug reports. If you send one from Settings, it includes your device model and app version along with what you write.
Everything else works with the SIM out.
Permissions
BookSkim asks for file access so you can pick EPUB files to import. It reads the files you choose and nothing else.
Children
BookSkim collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
