What is Fast Skim mode?+
Fast Skim bolds the first part of each word, creating visual anchors your eyes can lock onto. Your brain fills in the rest, so you move through text faster while still following the story. It's inspired by Bionic Reading, and you can toggle it on or off for each book.
Is BookSkim free?+
Yes. BookSkim is free to use — no ads and no account required.
What files can I read?+
BookSkim reads EPUB files that you import from your device. Import one and it's added straight to your library.
Does it work offline?+
Reading is fully offline — your books, progress, bookmarks and settings all live on your device. The only feature that uses the internet is the tap-to-define dictionary, which looks a word up when you ask for it.
Do you collect my data?+
No accounts, no trackers, no ads. Your library and reading activity never leave your phone. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
Can I change the fonts and theme?+
Yes — choose Light, Sepia, Dark or AMOLED, switch between serif and sans, and set the text size. Each book remembers its own settings.

The short version

BookSkim is built to keep your reading private. There are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. Your books and everything about how you read them stay on your device. We never sell or share your data — because we don't collect it.

What we store, and where

Everything BookSkim creates is stored locally on your device only:

  • The EPUB files you import and your library
  • Reading progress, bookmarks and reading position
  • Reading streaks and per-book settings (theme, font, size)

This information is never uploaded to us or to any server. If you uninstall the app, it is removed with it.

The one time we use the internet

When you long-press a word to look up its definition, BookSkim sends only that single word to a third-party dictionary service to fetch the meaning. No other information is sent, and lookups only happen when you request one. If you choose "Search the web" for a word, your device's browser opens a normal web search for that word.

What we don't do

  • No user accounts or sign-in
  • No advertising and no ad networks
  • No analytics or tracking SDKs
  • No collection, sale, or sharing of personal information

Permissions

BookSkim asks only for what it needs: access to files you pick so it can import your EPUBs, and internet access so the dictionary lookup can work when you use it.

Children

BookSkim is suitable for a general audience and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
